interesting times on my Birthday

Posted by ideaka
Feb 21 2010

We set out to have a nice dinner on Friday night in downtown Providence. We parked the cars and were about to cross the street when I head a bang and all hell broke loose. One smashed car flying down the hill with dozens of cops going in about 5 directions. It was like a scene out of a movie or the show COPS. Too nuts to be true. We were very curious to see what happened so we walked down to see what was going on. There was a guy on the wrong side of the road smashed into a cops SUV. He was sitting on the street bleeding in cuffs. Then I over heard a cop talking on the phone and found out that it was a hit and run. The video will explain the rest.

Mypressi Twist Espresso Maker

Posted by ideaka
Feb 19 2010

With no cord or power button, the new Twist espresso maker relies simply on the power
of standard recyclable N2O cartridges to deliver each flavorful shot.
The portable espresso maker, inspired by the founder's coffee cravings while on his honeymoon,
uses either grounds or convenient ESE pods and weighs just over two pounds, an ideal travel companion for java-heads.
The simplicity of its intelligible design, insert coffee grounds and hot water, pull the trigger—makes it an attractive alternative to machines.

Origin of the dollar $ign

Posted by ideaka
Feb 18 2010

I don't even remember now why I was thinking about the $ sign. Well anyway I went and looked it up and this is the most plausible answer I got. If anyone was curious like me. Oh and ¢ stands for Cents, that was easy I guess.

The dollar sign is an abbreviation for "pesos." Bear in mind that the Spanish dollar, also known as the peso de 8 reales, was the principal coin in circulation in the U.S. up until 1794, when we began minting our own dollars. In handwriting, "pesos" was usually abbreviated lowercase "ps," with S above and to the right of the P and with the hook on the latter written with one or two deep strokes. As time went on, the P and the S tended to get mashed together and the result was $.

Random Mid week pictures

Posted by ideaka
Feb 10 2010

I was just being nostalgic and looking at my pictures of my backpacking trip around Europe a few years ago. I came across these and thought that I would share.

1. Sweeping the streets in Paris is art. The brooms look like they are from the 1800's, yet they are plastic. Why neon green? They really take design serious in France, even their brooms are designed to look interesting or is it just me?

2. Go ahead and SCHOVIT ! Chocolate milk mix from Berlin Germany

3. Cool plastic shopping carts in a store in Amsterdam. I think they were just for display. I really want one.

Smile ! It's Wednesday

Feb 10 2010

Today we had a snow day, yet there is just a dusting on the ground and I use dusting loosely. They said that we were getting 6-12 inches,
I don't know what happened to all the snow? It would have been a great day to use these cool cups for a nice hot chocolate or an cappuccino.

Packaging of the World

I just found this great site Packaging of the World and wanted to share a few of the amazing things I found.

Lavazza Cookie Cup

Venezuelan designer Enrique Luis Sardi has teamed up with Italian coffee company Lavazza to create a master piece of green design: Cookie cup.
First you drink the coffee, then you eat the cup! Brilliant. “The cup is made of pastry covered with a special icing sugar, which works as an insulator,
and makes the cup waterproof hence allowing you to use the cup and then appreciate its taste.” Photo: Fabrizio Esposito

Pop-up Popcorn
Anni Nykänen of Packlab at Lahti Institute of Design in Finland designed this popcorn packaging
that pops-up into a little bowl when your popcorn is ready!

a Lighter or a Spoon? by GoranDA. If anyone wants to get me a birthday gift I would love a print. (Feb 20th)
